Land Yacht

Sailing is no longer restricted to the sea! Speed along the smooth, flat sandy beach in control of a land yacht, Land sailing, also known as sand yachting or land yachting. What do you get when you strap three wheels and a sail to a space frame? Incredible, high speed fun. Whizzing along the beach at high speeds without the need of noisy motors or the chance of getting wet-through. Land yachting is ideal for beginners through to experienced windsurfers, as it is super simple and super exciting to be travelling fast only inches from the ground.

Land yachting has evolved into a racing sport and the record is currently held with a speed of 126.1 mph (202.9 km/h)!

Modern land yacht pilot can reach speeds from three to four times faster than the wind speed.

The pilots are in a sitting or lying position depending on the land yacht model and steer the land yacht using pedals or hand levers. Land yachting or “Sand sailing” is normally done on windy flat areas of the country, normally beaches or wide open fields.

Beginners or thrill seekers can experience this exciting sport with little or no experience by signing up to a land yachting experience day, the lessons are normally for two hours and likely the most fun you will have in a long time.

Land yachting experience days are run by highly-skilled instructor who provide expert tuition to ensure you have tons of fun.

There are three main locations for experience days, Kent, Penzance, Fife.

Please take a look at our experience days here.
